Bride Discovers Something Just Before Wedding, Becomes ‘Best Plot Twist’
|A British bride-to-be had an unexpected twist in the lead up to her wedding after she discovered she was pregnant just six months before her big day.
Ellie Polly Hartley, a digital creator based in southwest England, shared a reel on Instagram that captured her journey, from the moment she received the positive result from a pregnancy test all the way up to her official wedding ceremony.
Hartley, already a mom of two, told Newsweek that she suspected she was pregnant during a family holiday and took a test the day they returned home. “This was 6 months before our wedding abroad, so my initial reaction was panic,” she said.
Her reel posted from her account @elliepolly featured special moments from her wedding in Malta—walking down the aisle, taking photographs with her bridesmaids and the first dance with her husband, all the while 7 months pregnant.
“I didn’t picture my wedding pregnant—I’m not sure any girl does. I had an image of my ‘dream’ dress and how I would look and feel and obviously… this had to change,” Hartley said.
Although it wasn’t her vision, Hartley explained in the text overlay that being pregnant at her wedding turned out to be “the best plot twist ever“.
Hartley’s reel has clocked up over 7 million views since it was posted 4 weeks ago. Many Instagram users congratulated the couple, while other fellow moms shared stories of being pregnant at their weddings.
“Beautiful and even more perfect that all of your babies were there,” one wrote. “This happened to us as well! I gave birth 3 weeks after the wedding,” another commented.
One user revealed that she found out she was pregnant with her son the week before her wedding: “But I like knowing that he was there in a way,” she added.
“I still felt beautiful and confident, and it was so special to know the baby was part of the day,” Hartley said.
The soon-to-be mom of three also had some words of wisdom for others. The text overlay on her reel read: “To anyone reading this who was me 6 months ago… trust the process.”
Hartley told Newsweek her advice to any women in the same position is to stay calm and check the calendar before panicking.
“I was sure we’d be cancelling our wedding but actually, most airlines let you fly up to 34 weeks, so I was fine. Remember everything happens for a reason,” she said.
