Floyd Mayweather Addresses London Altercation With Angry Mob
|Floyd Mayweather found himself in the middle of chaos during a recent visit to London jewelry store, Hatton Garden, on Tuesday (Dec. 10). What started as a luxury shopping trip quickly turned into a tense confrontation with an angry crowd—forcing the boxing phenom to swiftly exit.
According to videos circulating online, the Michigan-native was seen window shopping when he was approached by an irate mob. In one clip, the champ can be seen exchanging words with the group as his security team worked to shield him and usher him into a waiting vehicle.
As tensions arose, the crowd began to heckle Mayweather, creating a chaotic scene. Some witnesses alleged racial slurs were hurled at the 47-year-old as others claimed the confrontation turned physical.
However, Mayweather made it clear that no hands were placed on him.
“Let me set the record straight,” he wrote on Instagram hours after the incident. “There’s no truth to the rumors going around. I wasn’t punched or touched in any way. What you’re seeing is just my security doing their job to keep things under control.”
The iconic boxer dismissed claims of a physical altercation, chalking up the chaos to “jealousy and negativity.“ He assured fans, “I’m perfectly fine.”
Witnesses claim the athlete was confronted due to his support of Israel amid its conflict with Palestine, as one told The Sun that the drama erupted after Mayweather told the group he supported the Jewish community.
“Someone said that Mayweather had been shopping when he was asked why he supported Israel,” the witness said. When the crowd began rushing him, he reportedly “doubled down and said he was proud to support the Jews.”
Mayweather could also have a few more reasons why someone might be hating on him, as back in February, the boxer made headlines for publicly supporting the embattled music mogul, Diddy. While many stayed silent or distanced themselves, Mayweather stood firm during an appearance on The Pivot podcast.
“Mistakes happen,” he said at the time. “And I can’t say if it is or if it’s not a mistake, but things happen in life. And P. Diddy business is P. Diddy business. It’s not my job or anyone else’s job to go on the internet and stomp him and kick a man when he’s down. My take on it is it’s not my business. I don’t think it’s right at all and I don’t condone it.”
He then doubled down by bringing up his own daughter. “Even if that happened to my daughter, I would be hurt, but that’s the choice that my daughter made,” he continued. “So, I don’t wanna kick nobody while they’re down.” However, Mayweather seemed to have a change of heart when he unfollowed Diddy on Instagram.
