Fortnite Ballistic Tips and Tricks for Beginners

Fortnite Ballistic is a new 5v5 FPS mode that requires a more tactical approach. The mode is essentially Counter-Strike for casual gamers, which is great as more people get to experience the thrill of matches in CS and Valorant without the hardcore gameplay mechanics. Since its style of gameplay is new for many players, we’ve collected the best tips and tricks to win matches fast in Ballistic.

Winning matches in Ballistic will earn you XP that can be used to reap rewards from all Fortnite passes, so you can earn new cosmetics for your digital avatar in LEGO Fortnite Brick Life.

Understand Flex Gadgets

Flex gadgets are unique throwables locked to each player at the start of a match. Choosing what gadget you’ll use ensures a particular style of play. Be careful as the flex gadgets affect your teammates too, so don’t accidentally flash-bang them. Use them sparingly and only when you’re sure, and since they’re not free you’ll have to keep an eye on your wallet each round.

Learn The Map

Every match in a tactical shooter lives and dies based on the knowledge players have of its maps. Fortunately, Fortnite Ballistic is launching with just a single three-lane map, so learn how its points of interest connect. Go down the middle road, and split up to distract the team, and learn the shortcuts to run around the map as fast as possible.

Buy Shields Every Round

Like CS2, you can buy shields at the start of each round. Unlike CS2, Ballistic’s shields are very cheap. You can buy two slots of shields for 500 credits each, and the mode’s economy ensures that you always have enough to buy at least one shield.

Get Away From the Rift Point Device Explosion

Once the rift point device has been planted and you’ve cleared all CT/defenders, get away from the bomb! Staying in the vicinity of a rift point explosion will kill you too, and you’ll lose all weapons and equipment in that round. Run as far away from the bomb as possible when the countdown gets close to the explosion.

Repurchase Used Weapons Each Round

Unlike Counter-Strike, you’ll lose all your weapons and equipment after every round, regardless of which team wins. You’ll still get the extra credits based on your plays in the preceding round. Use that extra money to buy higher-tier weapons or, at the very least, re-buy the weapons you used previously.

Plant the Rift Point Device Early

When you’re on the attacking team, you should have one goal: plant the rift point device ASAP. Defend the bomb carrier and burst into the plant site. Plant it early and you’ll significantly shorten the length of the round to 45 seconds, putting the pressure on the defending team to defuse it while contending with your team.

Split Up the Team

It’s not a great idea to barge in together on one site, as your group can become easy pickings when lined up. Split up the team and have a 2-1-2 setup, so one person can stay in mid and give callouts to the others.

Avoid Rushing B

Every Counter-Strike player knows the age-old mantra of “rushing B.” While it makes for some enjoyable banter and engagement, don’t do that if you want to stay ahead of the normies. Most novice players will immediately rush to a bomb site, but you should use your game sense and only rush when you know your enemy is losing on the economy.

Use the Ping System

You can ping enemies, locations, and objects of interest in the game with just a single button! If you’re not feeling chatty, just use the ping and your teammates will know what you’re talking about. Ping enemies when you’re not in the line of fire, and ping dropped items so others are aware of their location.

Communicate with Teammates

This might be obvious, but based on my early impressions in dozens of matches, it’s clear that most Fortnite players don’t want to communicate. Unfortunately, communication is key in a tactical shooter. If you’re too shy to use the mic, use the text chat and send callouts to your team. Use short phrases to convey your message. The earlier you tell your teammates about enemy sightings, the better.
