Taylor Swift Jokes This NFL Player ‘Put Me Through a Lot’

Taylor Swift has not forgotten how stressed NFL star Brock Purdy made her during Super Bowl LVIII.

The “Fortnight” hitmaker shared as much while visiting with pediatric patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on Thursday, December 12. When one young fan brought up the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, she seemed surprised, but quickly gave a diplomatic response.

“I don’t mind Brock Purdy,” Swift shared the day before her 35th birthday, adding, “He put me through a lot last February, so I was very stressed for a second. It all ended up fine.” It ended well, of course, because the Kansas City Chiefs — her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s team — ended up winning the game and bringing home the Lombardi Trophy.

The funny moment was captured in a video shared to TikTok, where fans guessed the young fan had mentioned Purdy because she was referring to a viral AI song about Swift. The audio features lyrics like, “So happy that my Travvy made it to the big game, one step closer to Kelce being my last name. But if you play like you ain’t worthy, you can call me Mrs. Taylor Purdy.” The song also contains the lyrics, “If you win a ring, I want one, too.”

After telling the pop superstar that her favorite song was “Love Story,” the fan also mentioned “rings,” which her mom thought referred to the song “Paper Rings” from Swift’s Lover album.

However, when the young fan followed that by mentioning Purdy, commenters suggested she was referring to the AI song, due to Purdy’s name and the rings mention on the track.

Thankfully for Swift, the conversation quickly turned to an NFL player she’s happy to support: Kelce. “I like Travis now,” the fan shared, to which the Eras Tour star excitedly responded, “Yes, me too! That’s an absolute yes on that one.”

The Grammy winner then asked if Kelce was her favorite player, to which the little girl responded, “Yes, he and Patrick [Mahomes].” Swift praised this response, saying, “Good answer. You are acing this!”

The sweet exchange has already racked up over 200K views on TikTok, though it was not the only interaction the Cats actress had on Thursday. She was spotted visiting a number of patients at the children’s hospital, signing her Eras Tour book and posing with a Kansas City Chiefs rally towel that said, “Go Taylor’s boyfriend.”

She and Kelce have been publicly linked since she showed up to cheer him on at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023. She was famously in attendance when the New Heights podcaster celebrated the Super Bowl victory over the 49ers in February. The pair were photographed kissing on the field after the win.

Swift seemingly references the big moment in her song “The Alchemy” from her best-selling The Tortured Poets Department album. “Cheers chanted, ’cause they said there was no chance trying to be the greatest in the league. Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me.”
