Alan Ritchson and his wife, Catherine, have announced that they are ending their marriage after two decades together.
The couple shared the news in a joint statement on September 12, revealing that they had decided to move forward separately while continuing to remain part of each other’s lives.
“After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” they wrote.
The announcement marks the end of a relationship that began when the two were teenagers. Alan and Catherine first met in a ballet class in Florida when they were still in high school. They eventually went their separate ways for a time before reconnecting years later.
The couple married in May 2006 and went on to build a family together. They share three sons, Calem, Edan and Amory.
In their statement, Alan and Catherine made it clear that their children remain their priority as they enter this new chapter.
“We grew up together. We built a life and a family together,” they wrote, adding that their three boys “will always be the center of our world.”
They also emphasized that the end of their marriage does not erase the years they shared.
“Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us — or the love and respect we will always share,” the couple said.
Rather than discussing private details about why their marriage ended, Alan and Catherine focused their statement on their family and their commitment to raising their children together.
They said they want to give each other “room to grow into the people we are becoming” and described friendship, grace and co-parenting as important parts of the road ahead.
The announcement is especially notable because the couple had spent much of their adult lives together. Catherine was also alongside Alan as his acting career grew, eventually leading to his starring role as Jack Reacher in the hit series Reacher.
Their split also comes after a complicated period behind the scenes. According to court records reported by PEOPLE, Alan filed for divorce in December 2025, months before the couple publicly announced their separation. Reports also say the pair reconciled in March 2026 before ultimately deciding to end the marriage.

Alan and Catherine ended their message by asking for privacy as they and their children adjust to the changes ahead.
“Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in,” they wrote, asking for compassion and privacy for their family.
