Couple Attempt Baby Announcement at the Beach, Random Dog Has Other Plans

Social media users were left in stitches by a couple’s attempt to capture a pregnancy announcement video on the beach—only for it to be interrupted by a mischievous golden retriever.

On November 10, TikTok user @karina.alyza posted a video announcing the news that she’s expecting a baby in spring 2025. The video showed a pair of baby boots, an ultrasound scan and a mirror propped up in the sand decorated with the words “Baby on the way.”

However, as seen in a follow-up video, crafting the scene didn’t run entirely smoothly. The second clip showed that a golden retriever ran into the shot, stood in front of the mirror and even stole one of the boots.

The unexpected interruption has amused TikTok users, receiving more than 1.2 million views and 91,300 likes. Newsweek has contacted @karina.alyza for comment via email.

In the video’s caption, the poster wrote: “Story of my life—chaos. Some stranger’s dog ran up and grabbed the bootie. She’s lucky she’s cute.”

Like the TikTok user, many parents are choosing creative ways to announce pregnancies. They also host celebrations such as baby showers and gender reveal parties ahead of their new arrivals. A 2023 YouGov survey of 1,000 U.S. adults found that 68 percent of Americans felt positively about baby showers and that 22 percent had attended one in the past year.

Gender reveal parties were slightly less popular, with 63 percent of respondents viewing them positively and 14 percent attending one in the past year.

The Social Media Reaction

Despite the hiccups, user @karina.alyza appeared to see the funny side of the interruption, writing on TikTok that she couldn’t “make this up.”

The viral video has attracted hundreds of comments, with TikTok users lauding the golden retriever’s antics. Many viewers even said the dog’s intervention made the pregnancy announcement even more memorable—although perhaps for the wrong reasons.

“This might be the best baby announcement yet! Congratulations,” one TikTok user wrote.

Another added, “No this is perfect, it’s like an opening to a movie.”

“This is such a golden thing to do,” a user commented.

Another commenter appeared to have mixed feelings about the interruption: “I thought this was soo cute and perfect until I read that it wasn’t your dog.”
