A few others had similar thoughts and used the platform to greet Jennifer, writing, “Happy Birthday your pops is proud [sic],” and “Happy Birthday, Jen! A beautiful set of photos. Your father shines through in your smile. February’s the best month to be born.”
Jennifer’s family members also took their birthday greetings to Instagram. Her brother, Chris Candy, posted a cute photo of his sister sitting by a mural, dressed in a floral jumper, a cap, and dark sunglasses. “Happy Birthday to my lovely sister,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Jennifer’s mother shared a beautiful portrait of her daughter alongside a short yet sweet birthday message. “Wishing you a day full of love. You are an amazing daughter. As a mother you are the best. Great work [sic],” she wrote.
Jennifer Candy, like her father, also became a comedian. She is also a producer and a wonderful parent to her only son, Finley. Although John is no longer around, his daughter continues his legacy and undoubtedly makes him a proud dad.
As previously reported on January 11:
On March 4, 2023, John Candy’s two children, Chris Candy and Jennifer Candy, took to social media to celebrate their father’s life. The actor had passed away 29 years ago, and Chris and Jennifer chose to honor his memory by making two heartfelt posts on Instagram.
John passed away in Mexico in 1994 after suffering a fatal heart attack at the age of 43. The Canadian actor became famous for his roles in several hit 80s comedies, including “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” and “The Great Outdoors.” He featured on several sketch comedy shows over the years.

Jennifer and Chris make a point of commemorating their dad’s life every year. In the past, they’ve made similar posts on social media, talking candidly about what a great dad John was and lamenting their loss. The Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds joined them in honoring John in 2019, saying that the actor was a great talent.
Jennifer, 43, chose to post an image of her and her dad when she was only a little girl to mark the anniversary of John’s death. In the photo, the two are standing in a kitchen in front of a sink. John is resting his arm on the countertop as he kneels, and Jennifer is standing in front of him. Both are smiling mischievously at the camera.
Internet users commented on an interview Jennifer did about her dad, noting how much she looks like John.
Jennifer made it clear in the image caption that she missed her dad dearly. However, she mentioned that she will always love her dad, writing, “You will always be around ❤️ You will always be missed ❤️ You will always be loved ❤️.”
Like his sister, Chris also made a post to honor his dad. His post was merely an old photo of his dad standing in a leather jacket, a checkered, and jeans out in the open. The snapshot showed John standing with his hands in his pocket and a straight face.
In the caption, John lamented the loss of his dad, saying after all this time, the pain of losing him has still not faded from his life completely. That said, Chris also mentioned that he has learned a lot from his heartache over the years, although he still thinks of his dad daily. He wrote:
“Sending love to my father today. 29 years ago you started a new journey. I miss you and think of you often. I still think of you daily. Loss is never easy but I can optimistically say it is one of the great teachers in life.”
Fans reacted to the Candy siblings’ posts, saying they shared their grief. Many recalled growing up with John’s antics on television and mentioned he passed away too soon. One fan of John’s commented, “Jennifer is the same age now as her father when he passed away. He was way too young.”
After their father died, the Candy siblings decided to keep John’s legacy alive by going into the film industry. Chris runs the internet show “Candy Time,” a short-form local news broadcast covering an array of what Chris calls “hyper-local” news stories. He also wrote and starred in the films “Where’s This Party,” “Contracted,” and “To the Stones.”
In 1979, John married the woman who would bear his children.
Besides acting, Chris also has a passion for music. He plays in a Los Angeles-based band called Bull Shannon. The band’s music has played on KXLU radio and a few small local shows. Chris also runs his podcast titled “Bumper 2 Bumper.”
Jennifer decided to pursue an acting career initially, starring in popular shows such as “Liv and Maddie,” “Where’s This Party,” and “According to Jim.” She also starred in the film “In Vino.”
After finding some success as an actress, Jennifer began exploring roles behind the camera. Eventually, she started working as a producer and actress, helping to bring TV shows such as “Foreign Body” and “Prom Queen” to life. The actress opened up about being John’s daughter:
“He was your everyday kind of guy and a great dad and very lovable. Very much similar to characters that he was on film. [He] is a pretty big icon to kind of follow. So I’ve given up on that train of going, ‘I want to be just like you,’ because I will never be just like him.”
Internet users commented on an interview Jennifer did about her dad, noting that she was John’s “spitting image” and emphasizing their similar smiles and eyebrows. One user mentioned, “Unmistakably, she is John Candy’s girl.” Another person wrote, “Love you John, R.I.P brother. Jennifer, you look just like him, your lucky to be able to look in the mirror and see him everyday.”
In 1979, John married the woman who would bear his children. The two fell in love a while before and tied the knot in the same year the actor starred in the lesser-known Spielberg film “1941.” After settling down together, John and Rosemary Candy had two children.
These days, Rosemary works as an artist and an art teacher. She mainly works with ceramics and dabbles in abstract painting, photography, and drawing. Rosemary attended the Ontario College of Art and Design University and the Brentwood Fine Art and Design School.
The artist focuses on abstract art, featuring paintings of colorful, scattered shapes on her Instagram profile. She also posts images of ceramic works that she found or made, and flowers seem to be a running theme in her art and on her social media page.
Like her kids, she also looked back on the day her husband passed away. She shared a photo of John waving at the camera in a cap to observe the passing of her beloved husband. She captioned it, saying, “I was going through photos today and I thought this is a great one to post . Miss you today. As always with love.”
