It helped bring Charlotte Kemp Muhl into his life.
Sean and Charlotte Have Been Together for Nearly Two Decades
Sean and Charlotte met at the Coachella music festival in 2005.
They began a relationship in 2007.
Their partnership soon became creative as well as personal.
The two formed the psychedelic musical project The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, often abbreviated as GOASTT.
Both are multi-instrumentalists, and their work together has included recordings and live performances.
Charlotte has also pursued a career as a model, musician, songwriter and director.
Their relationship therefore developed at the intersection of art and everyday life.
For years they created music together.
Then came a very different collaboration.
Parenthood.
And Charlotte’s own announcement made clear that the experience already felt surreal.

Aurelius Is a Name With Ancient Roots
Aurelius comes from ancient Rome.
It originated as a Roman family name and is commonly linked to the Latin word aureus, meaning “golden” or “gilded.”
The name has appeared throughout history.
Several early Christian saints bore it.
But by far its most famous historical bearer was Marcus Aurelius.
Marcus Aurelius was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 AD.
He is also remembered as a philosopher, particularly through the writings collected as Meditations.
Those writings later became some of the best-known surviving works associated with Stoic philosophy.
That gives the baby’s name a history stretching back almost 2,000 years.
But there is no evidence that Sean and Charlotte chose the name specifically because of the emperor.
They have not publicly explained their inspiration.
The history therefore provides context, not an answer.
And the family’s announcement contained another meaningful milestone.
Aurelius Extends John Lennon’s Family Line
John Lennon had two sons.
Julian Lennon was born in 1963 to John and Cynthia Lennon.
Sean arrived 12 years later during John’s marriage to Yoko Ono.

Now Sean has become a father himself.
That makes Aurelius John Lennon’s first grandchild.
There is an important distinction involving Yoko Ono, however.
Aurelius should not be described simply as Yoko Ono’s first grandchild overall, because Yoko also has descendants through her daughter Kyoko Cox from an earlier marriage.
For the Lennon branch of the family, however, Aurelius represents a clear new generation.
