- In real life, she is rocking a bob with subtle blonde highlights.
Penélope Cruz has gone very, very blonde—possibly her blondest ever. Posing in a new photoshoot for Vogue Spain, the actress debuted a bright bleached blonde bob and bangs, which she wore in a messy, wind-swept look, her loose, cropped waves blowing in the breeze. In the photo, she paired the new ‘do with a sculptural white strapless dress that made her look positively statuesque.

It’s safe to say the blonde look was likely a wig, as she also sported ultra-dark brunette locks elsewhere in the shoot. On the cover, for instance, she rocked long dark hair in a wavy blow-out.
Cruz did have a brief bright blonde moment for her recent role in Olivia Wilde’s film The Invite, which saw her rocking another wavy bob and bangs, though that one featured darker roots.

Off screen, Cruz has been embracing some lighter hues, too. In May, she debuted a set of fresh, bright highlights. In June, celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos shared photos of her latest blunt bob and bangs in a honey-colored shade. He dubbed it the “boyfriend bob.” Then, in July, she showed off another hair transformation, debuting a “weekend bob,” and this month, she gave her locks another subtle French girl-coded update.
Cruz may have a team helping her through all of these playful hair transitions, but it’s something she also likes to do herself. “I do it almost all by myself! I grew up in my mother’s hair salon, so I know a few tricks for keeping it healthy,” she told Elle Canada in 2021, per Hello!. “I know how to cut, colour and blow-dry people’s hair. I did Salma Hayek’s hair and makeup right before a premiere once; the house lost power so I had to do it by candlelight! It was a challenge.”
She added, “I keep it natural. If I’m having a bad-hair day, I make it even messier by adding some dry shampoo for volume.”
