Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Matty Healy was hit with a cease-and-desist letter from rapper Azealia Banks after threatening violence against her during a heated online exchange.
On Sunday, December 8, Banks, 33, shared a photo of the letter written by her lawyer Wallace E.J. Collins III, on X (formerly Twitter). The platform has since taken the post down, and it now reads, “This Post violated the X Rules.” The letter requested the 1975 frontman refrain from “making any further threats or defamatory statements” against Banks, issue a “prompt public apology,” and give “compensation for damages in the amount of $1,000,000.”
The letter also noted that Healy, 35, deleting his X account was further proof of wrongdoing. “Your removal of the damaging attack posts (under your pseudonym “Truman Black”) and your acknowledgment that your reaction was inappropriate does not undo the damage, but rather constitutes evidence of an admission of guilt by you.”
The situation began Tuesday, December 3, when Banks critiqued Charli XCX’s appearance on X, writing, “Charli used to be sooo pretty. Ugh.”
Healy took it upon himself to defend the “360” singer, who is engaged to Healy’s drummer George Daniel, by replying to Banks’ post. “All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people. I think this makes you jealous cos you’re so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro,” Healy wrote.
The pair then both shaded each other in numerous tweets including one where Banks said Healy’s fiancé, model and singer Gabbriette Bechtel, was “Frankenstein looking.”
At one point, the British musician threatened physical violence against Banks, writing, “I’ll f****** slap you so hard I’ll get a Guinness world record for the highest a rat some b***h calls a wig has ever flown.”
After backlash, the “About You” singer apologized for his post, writing, “Nah, I can’t be saying I’m gonna hit a girl that’s insane. I’m sorry. You just can’t keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs it’s really hurtful gets me well defensive.”
Healy ended up deleting his X account and penned an apology on Reddit.
In the end, the “212” singer did double down on her initial comments about Charli XCX as she posted on X on Wednesday, December 4, “And I said what the f**k I said. Charli has horrible f**king plastic surgery. Period. Do something.”
