She was determined to disprove her detractors, though. The actress disclosed that David Shaw, her first husband, had ties to Bob Clark, who was working with the show’s creator, Gy Waldron.

Since she served as some inspiration for the character, Bob proposed that they meet her. She was hesitant at first, telling a friend that they had been looking for someone who resembled Dolly Parton, a blonde, for more than a year.

She was cast two weeks after her friend persuaded her to go, nevertheless. Noting with pride that she is now regarded as the All-American girl, she even created the famous Daisy Duke ensemble herself.

Her hubby served as a producer and production manager behind the scenes while the actress enthralled viewers on TV. Shaw became well-known for his roles in movies including “The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax” (1999) and “Murder, She Wrote” (1984).

During their 1976–1981 marriage, the TV personality and her first husband had no children together. Later on, she married Peter Lopez, a music lawyer and co-founder of Kleinberg Lopez Lange Cuddy & Klein. Michael Jackson and Michael Bublé were among the well-known musicians that Lopez had represented.

After getting married in 1990, the couple had two daughters. In January 1996, their first child, Sophia, was born, and in October 1998, their second daughter, Laura, was born.

In an interview, the family woman talked about her marriage to Lopez. She was so grateful and happy that she thought about it a lot. The star considered herself fortunate to have her family and the man she loved. Everything appeared flawless to her; there were no issues.

“‘I’m able to stay home with our kids. He makes a good living, he was a lawyer. This is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.’ And then all of a sudden it was just gone,” she said.

When her spouse of 20 years committed suicide at their house in April 2010, the Ohio native’s life was completely upended. In an interview, she talked about her memories of that fateful day. “Hey, aren’t you forgetting something?” her husband said as he approached her behind her at the stove while she was making breakfast.

It was a regular ritual for them whenever he was home—a way to express their love—but at first she was confused, believing she had everything in order, but then she realized and turned to embrace him, kissing him deeply and saying, “I love you.”

Then, since she was running late for her meetings, she asked him if he could drop the kids off at school. He nodded, and she watched him go, with her usual admiration, observing how he stopped, shrugged his shoulders, and turned slightly before walking away.

The mother of two recalled how he felt like saying anything at that very moment, but decided against it because the morning was so hectic and he kept moving down the corridor. She thought he was thinking about something, but they just didn’t have time to chat.

She raced up the hill to see what had happened after hearing the gunshot. But her sense of duty to her two young girls prevented her from continuing, telling her to stay out of any possible danger. He was eventually found by one of the domestic staff members. They dialed 911 right away, and the cops surrounded their house shortly after.

“We were inconsolable. The veteran actress acknowledged, “I mean, we were completely insulated and happy with our family, and when you are part of a happy family unit, you lose part of that.” Following her husband’s death, she and her eldest daughter read a ton of literature in an attempt to understand why it occurred.

She found it difficult to understand as she had no problems with substance abuse, excessive drinking, or money problems. The star stated in an interview that she will enroll in a suicide education course in order to better grasp the topic.

Given that her girls were the legacy of her and Lopez’s love, the devoted parent felt compelled to stand by them. She was aware that maintaining the family’s unity was more important to her than concentrating on her own sorrow.

The actress revealed that talking candidly about her trauma kept her fortitude for her children. She didn’t feel guilty and concentrated on caring for herself and her girls in order to remain strong. The star also highlighted how committed she is to her kids and how they went to bereavement counseling together, which she feels is essential for recovery.

In 2012, Catherine Bach returned to television after taking a break from acting to grieve and recover after her husband’s death. Her first acting role after the tragedy was in the CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” where she played Anita Lawson in her return role.

Years after his death, Bach still remembers her late husband and frequently thinks back on what a great father and partner he was. She posted a heartfelt remembrance and a family photo to Instagram in June 2023, captioning it, “Happy Heavenly Father’s Day honey.” In addition to being a wonderful husband, you were an amazing father to our daughters.

The 70-year-old television legend has welcomed change.
